Modern Idols and keeping our eyes on Jesus

For many people, the definition of idols means worshipping false gods. I want to draw your attention to what an idol means to God.

Are you spending free time watching TV than with God? Your idol is to be entertained.

Are  you spending hours scrolling through social media, even Christian-based content? Your idol is self-indulgences. He wants your undivided attention, not low effort prayers.

Are you spending your time on your hobbies, DIY, etc, leaving you no time to think about God? Your idol is performance-based pride.

Are you spending more time on learning how to mange your job and finances than God? Your idols are focus is on those things than God. They all fuel independence, knowledge and pride in your own works.

Are you spending more time with people than with God? Your idol is to be accepted and found worthy by people.

If you are not intentionally taking the time each day to spend time with God in Word, prayer, and worship, then you are risking making the things you're focused on as your idol. For Jesus said, "You shall love Yaweh your God with all your heart, soul, and strength." (Matthew 22:37) When He said this, I believe He spoke with an humble countenance.

Our pride, our distractions, and our priorities all take our focus off God and onto ourselves. We tend not to think about other people. Ask God to help you take those desires from your hearts. You have to humble yourself before Him, love him, and forgive people and yourself for what happened in your life. Offer up the idol to Him to be burned away by His purifying fire.

As you've spent time with God and talking to him about the things you see or doing. Watch a movie with God. Go over social media posts with Him. Discuss your job and finances with Him. Balance is key!

I suggest taking some time, mayube 5, 10, 30 minutes before doing those things.

If you prioritize other things over God, you risk not putting God first. He deserves that much from you.

I have an accompanying video on this topic on my Tiff for Christ Youtube Channel.
